One Last Cake...

I did 62 cakes this year, assuming my counting skills are correct. They aren't always. :-)

I'm pretty pleased with myself.

(Insert Cheshire Cat grin right here)

Number 62, the last one of the year, was for my niece for her 17th birthday. We drove 3 hours to spend it with her.

Pie Catch Up

And Pies
I forget to post pictures of pies. Which is sad...they are my personal favorite baked item

Cupcake Catch-Up

I do more than just cakes. I promise.

However, I do forget to give these sweet little treats the credit they deserve. They are fun to bake, quick and easy to decorate, and delicious. (I have to sample them, naturally).

So, a post dedicated to cupcakes...

It's my next to last cake for the month...and the year. I've done two cakes for this wonderful customer. A Mario Kart cake for her son, and a Harley cake for her boss. This one was for an afternoon tea she hosted at 4th Street Pickers.

The poinsettia was my first gum paste flower. I ♥ working with gumpaste, but need more practice getting flowers to look more lifelike.

My First Cake Disaster

Let's mark the first cake disaster. Cute cake right? Well, not as cute as it was supposed to be. It should have had 9 little construction workers in various hardworking poses. What happened to them? Well...

I put them safe and sound in their transport box, and set them on top of the car while I loaded the cake. I don't like to transport things like that on the cake, because they fall a lot. And then...the Wyoming wind.

It swept the box off the car, and landed it in the yard. Where my loyal, loving border collie Gracie-Lou ate the whole thing, box and all. It was a fondant people massacre.

Sigh...I may never decorate again. Two and a half hours of sculpting work down the drain. Or down the hatch I guess.

Sigh. The little foreman was supposed to be leaning on the sign:

Christmas "Gift"

I watch Cake Boss. Big shock there, right? A cake decorator who likes watching other cake decorators? No way!!

One episode I watched, they made a tiered cake that looked like a stack of Christmas gifts. I wanted to give it a shot, since I didn't have any orders (and an abundance of extra cake in the freezer).

There are some things I will do differently next time, but I was please with them overall. (Not pleased that my good camera is STILL in for repairs).

A Special Customer

This weekend, I cleared my schedule for a VERY important customer. And a tough one too.
